Got questions? Here are some of the most common things parents and carers ask us about riding lessons at Santolina Stables.

Children can usually start riding from around 4 years old, depending on their confidence and physical ability. We offer gentle Tots Trots and Walk Outs for younger riders.

No – we provide riding hats and body protectors for a small hire fee. All our equipment meets current UK Pony Club standards. Suitable footwear is recommended (no sandals or open-toed shoes).

Yes. All of our instructors are BHS qualified, DBS checked, first aid trained, and hold child safeguarding certificates.

We recommend leggings or comfortable trousers, a long-sleeved top, and boots with a small heel (no trainers). Gloves are also useful for grip.

Yes – we run half-day and full-day Pony Days, as well as Pony Camps during school holidays, which are packed with riding and stable activities.

All bookings are taken by phone or in person. Please call us on 01189 776090 and leave a message if we’re not immediately available.
All new riders to Santolina Stables must complete a Rider Registration Form before they are permitted to ride. Any riders under the age of 16 must have their parents complete the form.

Absolutely – we have space for parents and carers to observe, and we always encourage support and reassurance for young riders.

Yes – we offer Equine-Assisted Therapy and tailored sessions for children with additional needs. Please contact us to discuss individual requirements.

For the welfare of our ponies, we operate a rider weight limit. Please call us directly for guidance based on your child’s height and weight.

Yes – we host Pony Parties, Christmas events, and in-house competitions throughout the year. These are always popular with children and families!
